Sealing – connections/joints (Cham)

System‑compliant joints – incl. photo documentation.

Why professional joints matter

Joints look small but do a big job: they keep moisture out, absorb movement and deliver a calm, clean finish. In bathrooms, kitchens, at windows, façades or floor/wall connections, correct sealing prevents mould, debonding and water ingress.

In Cham (Canton Zürich) we renewed various connections with a tone‑in‑tone colour match, consistent geometry and full documentation – batch numbers, photos and a handover report.

Common failure patterns

  • Cracks/shrinkage: joint splits or pulls from edge – ageing or wrong geometry.
  • Adhesion loss: poor prep/missing primer.
  • Mould: persistent moisture or wrong product.
  • Colour mismatch: visually noisy next to light tiles/sanitary white.

Early replacement saves money versus moisture damage.

Typical applications

Bathroom & shower

Tub/shower rims, basins, niches. Mildew‑resistant sanitary silicones are standard.

Kitchen

Worktop/wall joints, sinks, splashbacks.

Windows & doors

Interior finish joints and exterior UV‑stable connection joints.

Outdoors

Movement joints in stone/concrete, plinths, balconies.

Step by step

  1. Assessment: width/depth, substrates, movement, moisture, colour.
  2. Masking: protect surfaces; crisp tape lines.
  3. Removal: old sealant out; clean/degrease bond faces.
  4. Backer rod: sized to avoid three‑sided adhesion.
  5. Primer: as required by the system.
  6. Application: even extrusion; geometry per detail.
  7. Tooling & finish: calm edge, tone‑in‑tone. Photo documentation.

Silicone, hybrid or PU?

  • Sanitary silicone: very elastic, mildew‑resistant; not paintable.
  • Hybrid: wide adhesion, low odour; partly paintable; robust outdoors.
  • PU: strong/durable for more mechanical stress.

We select strictly system‑compliant products based on substrate, movement, UV/moisture and appearance.

Tone‑in‑tone finish

We match the colour to tiles, stone or sanitary ware. Crisp edges and a calm surface deliver a premium finish. Sampling on request, batch recorded in the report.

Proven quality

  • Photo report: before/after and detail shots.
  • Batch & system: product, colour, batch, primer, backer rod.
  • Handover: joint inspection and maintenance guidance.

Execution follows manufacturer instructions and applicable standards.

Bathroom & kitchen

We removed shrunken joints, prepared bond faces and installed correctly sized backer rod. After priming we applied sanitary silicone (tone: sanitary white); at the kitchen worktop a hybrid suitable for natural stone.

In total 46 linear metres were renewed: calm edges, tight seal, consistent colour. Handover with photo report and maintenance advice.

Frequently asked

How long do joints last?

Typically 5–10 years depending on use/care; heavy duty zones may need earlier renewal.

When usable again?

Skin after 10–30 minutes; full cure 12–48 hours depending on system.

Paintable?

Silicone no; hybrid/PU sometimes.

Natural stone?

We use stone‑safe systems and primers to prevent staining.

Short‑notice?

Lucerne/Zürich region usually very short‑notice; we confirm by phone.

Care & maintenance

  • Squeegee after showering and ventilate.
  • Use mild detergents; avoid scouring agents/solvents.
  • Visual check every 2–3 years; replace early if cracks appear.
  • Do not paint/over‑seal movement joints.
